Delicate Sound of Thunder war das erste Rock-Album, das im Weltraum abgespielt wurde. Ein russischer Kosmonaut nahm eine Cassetten Aufnahme im Jahr 1988 auf die Sojus TM-7 mit. Die Hülle der Cassette ließ er auf der Erde zurück, um Gewicht zu sparen. Die Bandmitglieder von Pink Floyd waren beim Start der Rakete dabei. Delicate Sound of Thunder war auch die einzige Platte, die offiziell in der Sowjetunion von dem Label Melodija veröffentlicht wurde.
