片田舎で道場を構えるしがない剣術師範の中年、ベリル・ガーデナント。剣士としての頂を目指した日々は遠く過ぎ去り、自身の実力に気持ちの折り合いをつけてのんびり過ごしていた彼のもとへ今や王国騎士団長にまで出世した元弟子の一人、アリューシアが十年の時を経て来訪する。「先生を騎士団付きの特別指南役として推薦し、無事承認されました」このまま田舎暮らしで静かに生涯を終える、それでも構わないと割り切っていたベリルの運命が、大きく変わる─！都会での生活。大きく成長した元弟子たちとの再会。新たな仲間、そして強敵との巡り会い。「俺みたいな峠を過ぎたおっさんには、荷が重すぎるよ……」そう思うベリルだが、長きにわたり実直に鍛え続けた剣の腕は”片田舎の剣聖”と称されるほどの凄まじい領域に達していて─
