SAO Alternative: Gun Gale Online is een spin-off van SAO en speelt zich af na het tweede seizoen: Karen Kohiruimaki heeft geen gemakkelijk leven. De studente kan moeilijk met mensen omgaan en schaamt zich voor haar bovengemiddelde lengte van 183 cm. Maar in de VR-shooter Gun Gale Online (GGO) kan ze zich helemaal uiten. Daar noemt ze zichzelf LLEN, is slechts 150 cm lang en draagt van boven tot onder roze kleding. Hier ontmoet ze de ervaren speler Pitohui, in wie ze een metgezel vindt die haar helpt om met elkaar om te gaan in de wereld van GGO en die haar uiteindelijk overtuigt om deel te nemen aan de PvP-competitie 'Squad Jam', een royale team gevechtversie Bullet of Bullets-toernooi. Na aanvankelijke onzekerheid gaat LLEN akkoord en Pitohui geeft haar de ervaren sluipschutter M als partner, met wie ze zich nu in de strijd stort...

LLENN becomes the NPCs' prisoner, so she frees herself by committing suicide. She looks at her watch while prepping her equipment in the waiting area. It shows the clock at 21:54. Respawning takes three minutes, so she'll be back on the field at 21:57. By then, there will only be three minutes until the time is up. Her allies are doing the best they can, but the enemy is tough. Their defeat is inevitable. Pitohui takes out the bazooka she kept as her trump card, but it's not enough to ensure victory. It's up to LLENN whether they win or lose…!
