Em outubro de 1994 a SNK lança um jogo de luta que trazia diversos personagens de seus jogos como Fatal Fury, Art of Fighters, etc. The King Of Fighters desde então sempre foi um dos melhores jogos de luta em 2D. Em Agosto de 2004 no Japão a SNK Playmore lança o The King Of Fighters: Maximun Impact o primeiro em 3D e mesmo sem os trio de lutadores que marcaram a série e com apenas 20 jogadores (o menor número de jogadores selecionáveis numa versão do jogo) teve um bom retorno e já foi anunciado KoF Maximun Impact 2 e 3. A História do anime se passa após o termino do jogo KoF Maximun Impact, Com a derrota de Duke, South- Town passa a ser controlada pelos irmãos Alba e Soiree. Uma noite na ausência de Alba South-town é tomado pela chamas, Soiree acaba encontrando Iori Yagami que perdeu o poder das joias de Yasakani e assim, o prólogo de uma nova batalha se inicia...
