"主角們是一群在核戰爆發後仍然倖存的核彈基地工作人員，雖然他們的基地很幸運的沒被攻擊，但對外的聯絡也斷絕了，認為生還無望的指揮官因而意志消沉終日藉酒消愁，身為副手的男主角金麥可文生只好取而代之成為眾人的意見領袖，但是一直在基地守到老死不是辦法，於是眾人拖著意興闌珊的指揮官，駕駛 12 輪水陸裝甲車 Landmaster，準備橫跨充滿危機的北美大陸，尋找倖存的文明與棲身之地。沿途遇上輻射突變的大蠍子、會追著人死咬的大蟑螂、還有無 ZF 狀態下四處流竄掠奪其他倖存者的武裝盜匪，甚至，最後還遇上了避無可避的大海嘯. . .
