本劇由《莫斯探長前傳 Endeavour》主創 Russell Lewis 負責，改編自 Peter James 的「Roy Grace」小説系列。首季由 2 個 120 分鐘的故事組成，分別改編自小説《Dead Simple》及《Looking Good Dead》。 劇集講述警司主角 Roy Grace（John Simm 飾）的事業因其非傳統手法而處於低迷，而且妻子 Sandy 的失蹤也一直困擾著他。此時警探 Glenn Branson 向他尋求協助，他手中有案件是準新郎因告別單身派對後的惡作劇而失蹤；接手了案件的 Roy 憑著直覺﹑猜疑﹑執著而不停追查新郎的下落，並因此接觸了準新娘。
