主人公Pernell Harris（Ron Perlman）是一位很有權勢的法官，時常會做違背法律的事情。他已經結婚，但和一個高級應召女郎打得火熱。在一次精神崩潰之後，他突然開始看到幻象，並且聽到因自殺失敗而陷入昏迷的兒子PJ開口說話。他就像突然「覺醒」一樣開始信奉宗教，他認為上帝正通過他的兒子和他交流。從那一刻開始，他決心當一個「俠客」，不把那個導致他的家庭四分五裂的強姦犯抓住決不罷休。他手頭沒有任何實際證據，因此他主要依靠那些幻象和上帝通過兒子傳遞的信息來尋找線索。
