《德州之子》改編自菲利普梅爾（Philipp Meyer）的同名小説，描述美國在成為超級大國的同時，麥卡洛一家世代歷經的興盛與衰敗。 皮爾斯布洛斯南飾演一位以石油致富的德州家族領導伊萊麥卡洛，劇情將以兩條故事線同時進行，一方面描寫 1849 年時，幼年的伊萊麥卡洛遭到德州當地原住民的綁架，另一方面則描寫 60 年後的他將帶領龐大家族面對即將到來的戰爭。
